Iconic Democrat in Virginia Under Fire

We had #MeToo…#ICan’tBreath…#BLM.

In Portsmouth, Virginia we could have a new social media acronym: #ProtestPrison

Virginia state Senator Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth), a 32-year political veteran, former candidate for Congress and one of President Barack Obama’s earliest and most ardent supporters, is now under possible indictment and has been charged with felonies over Portsmouth’s Confederate monument protests.

As a result, one man lays in the hospital with injuries from the protest that care facilitators termed “life altering.”

Interestingly, Lucas is the treasurer of former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s political action committee.

McAuliffe is widely expected to run for governor again in 2021.

“Her opposition to a racist monument is the definition of what John Lewis called ‘good trouble,’ ” McAuliffe tweeted, referring to the Georgia congressman and civil rights leader who died last month.

“Good trouble” may not wash when one man is left clinging to life.

The Virginia Star will be following the story, and look for our first news analysis this weekend. Don’t miss it!
